Job Summary

Serves as a resource primarily for the local Kendle Clinical Data Management (CDM) organization regarding the coding of clinical trials data (i.e. adverse events, medical history, physical examination findings, medications) and coding dictionary issues. Responsible for coding and review of codes applied to clinical trial data for projects where Kendle CDM is responsible for the coding of clinical data. Participates in the development of Kendle Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Clinical Data Management Project Plan and clinical database validation and management tools. Provides training in coding dictionary structures and use for Clinical Data Management personnel. Interacts with Sponsors as needed to clarify coding guidelines.

Core Responsibilities

Accurately, within project timelines, and according to project guidelines, codes clinical trials data (e.g., adverse events, medical history, physical examination findings, and/or medications) and ensures completeness, accuracy and consistency of the codes through use of data listings, computer generated reports or on-line review.
Participates in the definition, development, and validation of ad hoc listings, reports and queries for use in the validation of the clinical database.
Reviews or provides input into the development of Kendle SOPs, Data Management Plans and project management tools.
Maintains a good understanding of currently used coding dictionaries and guidelines in order to effectively serve as a department resource.
Interfaces with Kendle project teams to resolve problems and issues dealing with the coding of clinical data.
Trains Clinical Data Management personnel on coding dictionary structures, conventions and/or use of coding software to apply codes or run reports by developing training tools, conducting training sessions, executing training and/or mentoring associates.
May provide performance feedback on associates to managers.
May interact with Sponsors by gaining working knowledge of project coding specifications, receiving feedback on coding reports, promoting consistency across projects within Kendle or resolving coding questions.
May be required to perform tasks associated with the Clinical Data Associate position to support the needs of the Kendle CDM organization.

Skills & Attributes

Previous training and experience in coding of clinical data is required. Candidate/incumbent should be familiar with using a PC and possess good verbal and written communication skills. Working knowledge of English is required.  Should be able to work independently and review large quantities of data to identify errors and inconsistencies. This role requires a talent for logical thinking, detailed work and prioritizing the urgency of multiple requests. Candidates/incumbent should excel at completing assignments, working towards deadlines and having personal accountability for the quality of work.  Must be able to work concurrently on several projects, following specific instructions that may differ from project to project.
