Job Summary-
The Research Nurse Coordinator manages clinical research projects for Principal Investigator via study protocol within the University, competently performs the nursing process including assessment, planning, evaluation, and intervention for the well being of the study participant; directs and assists others in the nursing process; and performs clinical activities and administrative work in support of the research study.?
Major Duties / Critical Task-
Prepares and submits IRB documents under the direction of the PI and prepares regulatory documents to be sent to the Sponsor; assists in addressing documents and contracts through IRB process and approval; under direction of PI may draft various communications with Sponsor
Coordinates and participates in the pre-site and site initiation visits
Coordinates study initiation and assists with planning and design of source documents for protocol; adheres to study protocol
Supports ongoing recruitment of patient subjects for clinical research; screens patients for protocol eligibility and participation; and monitors enrollment goals
Organizes and facilitates assisting PI in obtaining Informed Consent from study participant and documents appropriately
Completes an initial patient assessment utilizing interview, observation, and examination
Performs competent physical, pathophysiological, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, learning needs, and/or age-appropriate nursing assessment of participants
Obtains Vital Signs and performs phlebotomy; monitors participants labs; teaches proper procedures
Intervenes and recommends patient needs and/or changes as appropriate to the PI and other health professionals
May assist others in the identification of areas of health promotion; coordinate and facilitate health promotion opportunities through informal teaching
Monitors and assists with accurate source documentation and appropriate forms as per protocol on all participant records, drug accountability, test devices and clinical? supplies
Utilizes data resources external to hospital as well as develops and facilitates productive workingrelationship with the study monitor
Monitors the quality assurance process
Conducts in-service to floor nurses and physicians; proficiently serves as a mentor and resource to new and existing staff?
Assists with the budget development; may monitor ledgers; maintains supply inventory and equipment
Other duties as assigned
Adheres to internal controls as established by department
Required Education / Experience
ADN and licensed by the state of
Four years of RN-level nursing experience, two years of which in direct patient care.
OR
Two years of RN-level nursing experience, one year of which in direct patient care.
Equipment -
Standard patient care equipment, related supplies, and mechanical devices.
Working Environment
Work environment is located in a comfortable indoor area.
Conditions such as noise, odors, cramped work space and/or fumes could sometimes cause discomfort.
Occasional lifting may be heavy and awkward, over 50 lbs.
Vision, hearing, talking, and sense of touch abilities must be adequate to enable one to quickly and accurately perform tasks such as: reading small print, reading from monitoring equipment, defining details, sending and receiving clear and accurate verbal communication.
Frequent periods of concentrated or focused attention will be needed to interpret visual, auditory, and sensory inputs.
Alternate shift work and/or on call status may be required.
May be exposed to such occupational hazards as communicable diseases, radiation, chemotherapeutic agents, and disoriented or combative patients.

Organizes and facilitates campus coordinator workshops
Identifies learning needs for themselves and others
Maintains licensures through continuing education (CEU)
Organizes and facilitates in-service education
Basic PC skills, including word processing, report writing & e-mail skills
Spanish language skills may be a plus
Good written and verbal English skills
