Clinical Research Pharmacists

The Clinical Research Pharmacist works closely with other clinicians and is responsible for the evaluation, planning, administration and documentation of medications administered to human subjects in clinical trials. Patient reactions to medication as well as any other relevant feedback from test patients is evaluated and analyzed by the Clinical Research Pharmacist, and he/she ensures that all processes and procedures are conducted in compliance with Good Clinical Practices and other regulations and guidelines.

 

Being a registered pharmacist is a requirement for this position, as is a familiarity and experience with the clinical environment. A Doctorate in pharmacy or medicine may also be required.

Career opportunities for Clinical Research Pharmacists are commonly found in hospitals, contract research organizations, biomedical research organizations and institutions, specialty disease centers and pharmaceutical and medical device suppliers. Due to rapid growth in the healthcare sector along with enduring pharmacist shortages, Clinical Research Pharmacist opportunities are expected to increase 22% or more in the next 10 years. Clinical Research Pharmacists earn an average of $40.00 to $52.00 an hour for an annual salary of $83,200 to $108,200 a year or higher, depending on degrees obtained, the research setting, credentials and experience.
