Clinical Data Analysts
A Clinical Data Analyst is responsible for the collection of data from and associated with clinical research and trials. As part of this role, the Clinical Data Analyst may assist in the design of the procedures and measuring standards for collecting data in addition to ensuring those procedures are properly followed during the actual data collection phase. Consequently, the job requires verifying that the collected data is consistent and accurate. Once data is collected, the Clinical Data Analyst is often responsible for preparing the presenting the data to medical and business stakeholders.
Because the medical field is increasingly reliant upon technology, the Clinical Data Analyst is typically required to be well-versed in data collection software, as this line of work may require designing collection procedures via advanced software programs. A four-year college degree is required, and at higher levels, a Masters or Doctoral degree is often sought by employers because Clinical Data Analysts often are required to work independently with a great deal of responsibility.
Employment Outlook
Career opportunities for Clinical Data Analysts can be found in hospitals, contract research organizations, biomedical research organizations and institutions, specialty disease centers, pharmaceutical and medical device suppliers and sectors of government. The job opportunities for Clinical Data Analysts are expected to increase by 14% or more in the next 10 years and quickly outpace the number of qualified individuals. Clinical Data Analysts earn an average of $20.00 to $34.00 an hour for an annual salary of $42,000 to $70,000 a year or higher, depending on educational degrees obtained, the research setting, credentials and experience.
