Biostatisticians
A Biostatistician is a statistician who applies his/her knowledge and methods to healthcare-related research projects. Possessing a mind for numbers and a passion for science, Biostatisticians are responsible for coordinating with various healthcare researchers and medical professionals to design clinical trials as well as to collect, analyze and interpret collected data to answer health-related questions. Biostatisticians also help scientists design experiments and assist in determining the appropriate sample size as well as determining and implementing the appropriate measures for data collection. Their work has many practical applications, including the important task of helping to bring new medicines and consumer products to the marketplace.

Biostatistician opportunities are commonly found in hospitals and health care facilities, colleges and universities, industries, and various sectors in federal and state government. The rapid emergence of the Biotechnology industry and other fields, including statistical genetics and medical imaging, has broadened the number and variety of opportunities. Jobs for statisticians in general are expected in increase nine percent or more in the next 10 years. Biostatisticians earn an average of $36.39 to $45.91 an hour for an annual salary of $75,700 to $95,500 and higher, depending on educational degrees obtained, the research setting, credentials and experience.
